 Educational Opportunities

Helen Edwards’ many educational programs are:

  • Computer Labs the main computer lab will house 20 individual workstations and be located in the library. Computers will be used to teach and improve basic reading and math skills. Each classroom will have one teacher computer in it and 3 of their own. Beginning key boarding and computer skills will be developed through games and activities. 

MS. FUENTES-Computer's

  • Library there is a full service library for teachers, students, and parents. Parents will be welcome to check out books to take home and share with children.

MRS. SISSON-Librarian

 

  • Rhyme Time – a time for fun stories, rhymes, finger plays, songs and games that reinforce classroom learning concepts.

MRS. GIBSON-Rhyme Time 

  • Texas Playhouse the children will develop and establish basic physical fitness and coordination skills in this area.

MRS. CHAMBERS-P.E. Playhouse
 

 

  • Kidsville – a technology center that is equipped with much more than computers. It is a place for youngsters to develop there imagination, write a book, feed the animals, or fix a snack just to name a few. This classroom satisfies science and social studies TEKS for early childhood. 

 

MRS. FROSCH-Kidsville

 

  • Montessori Math – a method of teaching that has been designed by lady names Dr. Maria Montessori. Children learn at their own individual pace through five different learning centers.

MRS. ANTUNA-Montessori

 

 

 

  • Art a way to increase not only creativity, but also self esteem, thinking skills, hand and eye coordination, and listening skills all in one colorful package.

MRS. LOWE-Art

 

    

  • Music – Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten music class learn such concepts as slow/fast, loud/soft and steady beat.  These concepts are taught through listening, singing, moving and playing rhythm instruments.  Students also learn about various instruments and instrument families.

MRS. SHELTON-Music

 

 

  • Speech a part of the special education program that assists students who have delays in language and articulation.

MRS. SLOAN-Speech

 

  • Special Education a program that assesses and serves students whom have delays in speech, motor development, cognitive development and emotional development.

MRS. BEZNER-Special Ed

 

 

 

MRS. VALDEZ-Special Ed Aide

 

 

  • ESL an intensive English language instruction by teachers trained in recognizing and working with language differences. State law requires that districts who have limited English students provide an ESL program.
 
  • Bi-lingual a program that serves students who are non-English speakers. The classes are conducted primarily in Spanish.
 
  • Reading First a program of leveled reading instruction that assesses reading readiness and appropriately provides small group reading instruction based on a child’s test results as well as academic performance in the classroom.

MRS. GENTZEL-Reading Coach

  • Curriculum – the Kindergarten curriculum incorporates a very intense Saxon Phonics Math program and Scott Foreman Reading Literacy curriculum. The Head Start, Pre-Kindergarten, and PPCD/Early Childhood use the Scholastic curriculum. We have several programs to help those students who may be struggling with reading. They are: Scott Foreman Early Interventions of Reading, Early Success, Leap Frog, and Voyager (Animal Tracks). All students have an opportunity to participate in a computerized reading program called Accelerated Reader. With this program kids can earn points to be cashed in at a later date.

MRS. PINTO-Spanish Movement

 

  • Spanish Program Spanish Movement is a class devoted to increasing the students' exposure to a second language and culture through the use of song and dance. The teacher introduces basic words such as colors, numbers, and simple phrases. The class enjoys games, projects, and stories that reinforce Spanish vocabulary. Each student attends this class as part of the TLC grouping at least once a week and sometimes twice, depending on the rotation for 30 minutes.
