What's the difference between Speech and Language?

Speech - the verbal expression of language. Includes articulation, which is the way words are formed.

Language - refers to the entire system of expressing and receiving information in a way that is meaningful.  It's understanding and understood through communication - verbal, nonverbal, & written.

Activities that can be done at home:

• playing games with your child
• having the child name items around the house
• talk about what is needed to complete simple tasks (ie: taking a bath, making a sandwich, etc)
• reading to your child and having the child discuss the pictures in the book
• labeling objects while riding in the car
