KISD Scholarships

The Kaufman Independent School District was established the Kaufman ISD Scholarship Foundation in August 1999 with a gift from Bob and Marla Gail Dean to endow the Marla Gail Dean Scholarship.  Returns on this investment as well as other donations since then are used by the Foundation to provide college scholarships to Kaufman High School seniors.  Since only the interest income earned from donations is spent on scholarships, gifts to the foundation will continue to provide funds to Kaufman ISD graduates now and into the future.

Every spring scholarships are awarded to KHS seniors from various individuals and companies.  The foundation only enhances the opportunity for every KHS senior who has a desire to attend college to make that dream a reality.  It is the long-term goal of the KISD Scholarship Foundation that every Kaufman High School senior receives a scholarship to start them out in their college career.

In May 2008, 12 KHS seniors will be awarded a total of $22,000.00 in scholarship funds provided by the foundation.  Continuing scholarships currently funded through donations to the foundation include the Marla Gail Dean Scholarship, the James and Donna Beth Thompson Scholarship, the Dr. Bobbie Morrow Dietrich Scholarship, the Tinnin Sisters Scholarship, the Robert Wisdom Music Scholarship, the Jimmy Phillips/Lions Club Memorial Scholarship, the Coca Cola Bottling Company of North Texas Scholarship, the Lockerd Foundation Scholarship, the Dr. Bruce Wood Scholarship, and the KISD General Fund Scholarship.

Benefactors of $1,000 or more to the KISD Scholarship Foundation are recognized with the placement of their name on a permanent plaque displayed in the Kaufman ISD Administration Office.  Donations of $10,000 or more to the KISD Scholarship Foundation are recognized with an individual plaque and benefactors are given the opportunity to name their scholarship.

The foundation provides for donations in any amount to be combined with larger ones, giving everyone an opportunity to participate.   Gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated and will be included in the General Fund Scholarship.

Donations made in honor or memory of someone are recognized with a card sent to the individual, or the individual’s family acknowledging the memorial.

All donations to the KISD Scholarship Foundation are tax deductible as provided under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.   For additional information about the KISD Scholarship Foundation, please feel free to contact Paulette Murrah at 972 932-2622, pmurrah@kaufmanisd.net
